Papon

Papon is an Indian playback singer from Assam who has also worked as a songwriter and music director for Assamese films. He started a band called folk-fusion and The East India Company bands.

Papon sings in a number of genres which include Electrofusion, Indian classical, pop, Assamese classical etc. He also sings in Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, Marathi, Mishing and Bengali.

Papon has sung for a number of Hindi films which include Sanju, Befikre, Sultan, Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Kya Dilli Kya Lahore, Lakshmi, Madras Cafe, Barfi!, Dum Maro Dum etc. He released his first album, Junaki Raati in Assamese. He released a number of albums which include Sinaaki Osinaaki, Rangphul, Gomseng, Phagunor Gaan, Chandamukhi, Tokari songs etc.

Papon’s received a wide range of appreciation for his work in @MTV season of Coke Studio and his tracks are widely popular on YouTube.His recent Songs releases are Koi Nidiya Kiyaw ,Choti Choti Galtiyan ,Duniya etc.

Papon’ has received several awards which include three GiMA Awards, two Jack Daniel’s Rock Awards, and a Screen Award, “Assamese of The Year” award etc. He also received Big Asomiya Music Award, Prag Cine Award, Stardust Award, JD Rock Award, 22nd Screen Award, 61st Filmfare Award, Zee Cine Awards 2016, 8th Mirchi Music Awards, Times of India Film Awards 2016 etc.

Angarag Mahanta, known by his stagename Papon is an Indian playback singer, song-writer and also the lead singer and founder of the band Papon and The East Indian Company. The band has performed twice at the SAARC Music Band Festival in New Delhi, the Eastwind Festival and the Kovalam Literary Festival and has performed overseas with Sutasi in Singapore. In 2015, Papon and The East India Company performed at Oasis in BITS Pilani Pilani Campus, Dhaka International Folk Fest and in 2016, he performed at Spree in BITS Pilani Goa Campus.

Papon’s first big song in Bollywood was “Jiyein kyun” from the movie Dum Maro Dum. He recorded a hit song “Kyon” for the movie Barfi!. In 2015, he sang “Moh moh ke dhage” for the film Dum Laga Ke Haisha and “Humnava” in Hamari Adhuri Kahani. Papon is known for his blend of Bollywood and Classical forms of music as he is trained in Classical music. Papon is a very acclaimed singer in Assam and has sung many Assemese songs along with Hindi songs.

Papon has received several awards and honors, including three GiMA Awards, two Jack Daniel’s Rock Awards, and a Screen Award. Papon also won Stardust Award for New Musical Sensation for the song “Kyun” from Barfi!.
